CFRN Tips

Let me know! - Please let me know if you guys have any questions, comments, concerns. I will keep posting CFRN appropriate materials in the TOTM page. I will also share my study material. Thank you all and as always let me know what else I can do. Happy studying and good luck on the CFRN!

SCHEDULE - I would encourage/challenge you to pick a date for your test then schedule your test. I really took my studying seriously when I knew that I was schedued for the test.

I took the CFRN recently and wanted to give the nurses some quick tips on this exam. Here are some things that I believe that helped me pass this exam. First you need to review the BCEN website about the CFRN.

BOOKS - We have all seen the study books out there. I personally used the FlightBridgeEd books by Eric Bauer. I thought these were just ok. The Question and Answer book was most useful. William Wingfield also has the Q&A book that is very similar. I also listened to the FlightBridgeEd podcast on my commute. I found this very helpful. I became a little obsessed with medical podcasts! haha.

QUESTIONS- Reading tons of questions really helped me. My method is: Read the question and before you even look at the options - answer the question in your head (that is your gut feeling) then review all the answers. And actually reading 180 questions in one sitting was difficult for me.

STUDY the right material - please take a minute and review the current CFRN content outline. The books that i mentioned above are published primarily for paramedics. For example the books had an entire section in IABP and IABP waveform interpretation. There was NOT a single question on IABP waveform interpretation. The questions surrounding IABP's were making sure that you understood what the device is used for and troubleshooting problems.

TEST DAY - The test is adminstered by Peason and nearest locations are Denver area, Casper, North Platte. (so plan on a drive!) You can't bring anything to the test except for 2 forms of ID. Leave your phone, your watch, and everything else except for your ID's in your car (nothing in your pockets) Wear something comfy as there are 180 questions. You have 180 minutes to comlete the exam. I am a s-l-o-w reader and had about 30 minutes remaining and I reviewed a few questions that I flagged. With that said, take your time. Flag the questions that you dont know and move on.
